Do The Thuong was born in 1924 in Tien Du, Bac Ninh. He doesn’t always give precise information about what he himself was doing when talking about the main events at the end of World War II and during the Indochina War, but he often gives details concerning who was present in Bac Ninh, at what time, and what they were doing with regards to the Revolution or the War. He mentions the Democratic Party several times, which according to him was more active in his area than the VNQDD. Starting in 1945, because he could read and write Quoc Ngu (the “national script”), he became a leading member of the provincial committee of binh dan hoc vu (classes intended to eliminate illiteracy and teach other basic subjects to those without an education). He gives some information about binh dan hoc vu such as the number of students in the different classes and levels as well as the different subjects taught. He mostly stayed in Bac Ninh during the war, rarely venturing to other areas. Do The Thuong also describes several encounters with the “puppet” regime, including when he was captured and interrogated along with other Communist Party members.
